Stepping Up-Week Four

Wow! I really enjoyed our conversations tonight. Thank you ladies so much for speaking up. We all learn so much from each other when we are willing to share what God is doing and has done in our lives.

For those of you who didn't make it, be encouraged to do your homework and come back next week. We're learning so much through our discussion and through Beth's teaching, and I don't want you to miss out! We really miss you when you aren't there!

By the way, I just can't get over the fact that Travis, THAT MAN CAN SING! Hallelujah!

I especially loved Beth's discussion about the Living Proof women dancing. So, here's the topic for our discussion. Do you enjoy dancing? In public or just in the privacy of your own home? What great thing has God done in your life that just made you want to dance with joy? Has anyone ever seen such joy in your life that they wanted to know what the source was?

Okay, I admit it. I used to be a cheerleader. I LOVED dancing, but only already choreographed numbers. I can learn any dance, but I can't seem to make them up myself for anything. Thus, I dance like crazy with my children at home, but you will NEVER find me on the dance floor in public.

My husband loves to dance and he begs me every time we go to a wedding. Really, my 4-year-old summed up my skills this morning when she said, "Mommy, your dancing isn't very good." Thanks for the encouragement sweet child of mine. (Oh, that brings back some memories.)

I will say that my family has danced many a joyful dance in our coming to our new town and new job. God provided in such a MIGHTY way, that we had some "family dances" because we just couldn't hold back the joy!

As far as people seeing joy in me, I am such a reserved person that I hardly ever show emotion. I hope that people can see joy despite my reserved and shy personality? I have known people in my life though with such contagious joy in incomprehensible circumstances that it makes me marvel at God!

1. Do I enjoy dancing? Yes!

I use to square dance when I was a little girl. My parents square danced & there were enough of us kids of the parents to make up a circle, or square? of dancers. I remember my mom made a square dance dress for me with a big, frilly petticoat underneath. I loved that dress with the big frilly petticoat! We even got to dance at the County Fair. I felt famous!

Hey, Hope, I too was a cheerleader way back in Jr. High & High School. (Way back in the 60’s
& 70's!!) I just loved doing the dance routines during the pep rallies, football & basketball games! Those were the good ol’ days!

I even took dance lessons once upon a time. Although I can’t remember a single dance step!

I like to watch dance contests, Dancing with the Stars & So You Think You Can Dance. And I think I’ll throw this into the dance category...I LOVE to watch Olympic ice skating. That’s sort of like dancing to me!

2. Do I enjoy dancing in public or in the privacy of my home? Both! I enjoy dancing at weddings. I like to polka too! But it's been years since I've done that. My husband & I have slow danced in the house to old songs like “Unchained Melody”. It’s usually a spur-of-the-moment, once-in-awhile kind of a dance! There will be much dancing up in Nebraska in Sept. when I go to my sister’s wedding & my niece’s wedding! I can’t wait!

Here's a little secret...Many times I have danced around in my living room to my favorite praise & worship videos. I like to imagine I am dancing before the throne of God! :-)

3. A great thing God has done that made me want to dance for joy...When my grown children came to know Christ! I could not stop joyfully jumping up & down in my heart! I was praising God non-stop! And I still am! I wanted to dance for joy!

4. Has anyone seen such joy in my life that they wanted to know what the source was? Yes! When my little sister back in Nebraska got saved, she was encouraged to write out her testimony. I was blown away & honored & praising God to find out that she mentioned me in her testimony! She stated that her sister (me) was going through a terrible divorce & foreclosure on their home & that every time she talked to me I was so cheery & unafraid! (That’s God for you because I thought I was depressed & anxious!) Little did I know the impact that Christ in me & all the fruit of the Spirit in me & all the little tiny seeds God gave me to plant was having in her life! She continued to write that I had shared a scripture with her that really got her to thinking. Matt 6:26-27 where Jesus says “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” This, she said, got her attention. Within a month she traveled to see me in Kansas City. We saw a big production of the Passion play, called Behold the Lamb. She stated that while she was watching this play she felt like she was right there in Jerusalem watching Jesus being crucified! She continued on to say, that at that moment, she finally realized in her heart (not her head) what Jesus did for her & she asked Him into her heart & to cleanse her from all her sins. She had been involved in drugs, alcohol, & was bulimic. Jesus drastically changed her life! Then further on in her testimony she stated that within a month her husband & son came to know Christ! Later on, over the years, her other 3 boys got saved & baptized. I am just blown away & overjoyed at what God has done in her life!

P.S. Dear Hope, I see your joy shining through in all your writing! It’s wonderful! And guess what?! It’s contagious!

Ok...well, I must admit that I have a few "smooth moves" that make my boys laugh like crazy! We LOVE music in our house and there's nothing like a little Toby Mac to get the dance party started!

I hope that people see joy in me through the way that I enjoy others. I, too, tend to be kind of reserved, but can be very silly at the drop of a hat. My son, Zane, has a spirit of contagious joy and I praise God for placing him into my life to experience true joy through the eyes of a child. We often do the "Happy Dance" together to express our joy!
